Porcelain Crowns

Durable and natural-looking crowns

Porcelain CrownsCrowns are used to repair or restore a tooth that is broken down or decayed, and they can often save a tooth that might otherwise need to be extracted. Porcelain crowns are also often used to cover and strengthen a tooth that has received root canal therapy.

At our office, we use all-porcelain crowns as well as porcelain fused to metal (PFM) and zirconia crowns. Crowns made of ceramic, porcelain or zirconium are very durable and look like natural teeth.

Our high-tech, durable Crowns

There are different factors to consider when deciding on what type of crown to use. The most natural-looking crowns are ceramic, which can be made to match the shade of surrounding teeth as well as their translucent quality. They are very strong and long lasting.

Crowns made of porcelain fused to metal (PFM) are adequately strong, but usually not as aesthetic as ceramic, as a dark metal edge might show just above the gum line or may lack the luster quality of ceramic. Your budget is another factor. PFM crowns are less expensive than ceramic crowns.

The top-of-the-line material is zirconia, a ceramic, which has the best aesthetics and strength available, but usually the highest cost.

We can go over with you what our recommendations are for your crown needs while keeping your budget in mind.

High-quality lab for high-quality crowns

We have our own lab off-site that creates high-quality restorations. Our lab technician is very artistic, making beautiful crowns and other restorations that enhance your smile while being very functional too.

Shade matching is part of creating an aesthetic crown. We make sure the color and translucent quality matches your surrounding teeth.

What Crowns are used for

Porcelain Crowns

Dr. Roe is an expert in tooth restoration and will go over your options for repairing your teeth.

Crowns repair and save damaged teeth as well as make teeth look more uniform in shape and color. They also provide protection and strength for a tooth. For example, after root canal therapy, it’s often necessary to place a crown to strengthen and protect the tooth from any further decay.

Common reasons we recommend crowns:

  • Keep a cracked tooth held together
  • Anchor a bridge permanently
  • Make shorter teeth longer
  • Strengthen a weak tooth
  • Restore a broken tooth
  • Restore teeth that are too worn down
  • Improve your bite
  • Protect what’s left of a tooth that has a large filling
  • Cover dark stains
  • Reshape teeth
